(What's really going on here)
Ok,ok, you've mannaged to check out the site and you're
wondering what the heck is going on!?Is this GNUist thing real?What's
this UPGR thingy anyway?Either that or you jusst want to find out
what's going on ASAP.Well let me explain it.
If you want to maintain the fantasy that penguins have
toppeled the USA and built a nation for geeks,leave now.I don't want
to break your heart.
Ok here we go.
THIS IS A JOKE!!!!There is no real GNUist Party and no
UPGR. The whole thing is a funny joke crafted by me,Matthew Adair. The
whole thing started when an article was posted on Slashdot asking,esentially,if
Communisim==Open Source Movement. Well,of course,except for the communal
aspect of OSM,it's really free market economics.
But the gears turned in my head.What if OSM and GNU
and Linux are all part of some vast conspiracy to create a world where
information is free and shared in a bazaar-like system?I created
in my head a revolution lead by the Linux mascot,Tux Penguin,that would
destroy closed source software forever.If you want to see the original
article posted to Humorix,a Linux humor site,on April 2,2000,follow
this link.I later debunk the whole
thing as a conspiracy, providing a link that leads the unsuspecting
reader to this page.The joke is that there apparently really is
a conspiracy,despite my rant. If your reading this now,then the joke's
pretty much finished.
If you're curious,I will be continuing the UPGR plotline
in Humorix and I will expand this page.I plan to have some fun here
and I hope that this provides a way for you to laugh while you code/debug/beta-test/surf-the-web.Keep
the OSM alive...I will too with my programs,and who knows,I may publish
some of those programs when I get around to it.
